A Morning in Èze, and a Quiet Afternoon Discovering Gorbio

Published on June 15, 2025

A Morning in Èze Village

I chose to spend the morning of my birthday in Èze, and couldn’t have made a better decision. It’s under a 30-minute drive from Menton (the town we chose as our base on the French Riviera), with easy parking just outside the village. Before walking into the village, make sure to take in the incredible view from the White Arc Bridge, also known as the Viaduct of Èze – it’s a perfect first glimpse of what’s to come.

Walking the narrow, winding streets of Èze felt like stepping straight into a storybook. Inside the village, you’ll find small boutiques and souvenir shops, restaurants, and countless gorgeous viewpoints. Be sure to make your way up to Èze’s peak, where you’ll find its botanical gardens, Le Jardin Exotique d’Èze, which offer the most beautiful view of the sea and surrounding towns. The small entrance fee is absolutely worth it.

Èze is easily one of the dreamiest places I’ve ever been, and I highly recommend making it a priority on any Côte d’Azur itinerary. After a couple of magical hours, we continued on to Gorbio for the afternoon, an even tinier French village with its own quiet charm.

A Quiet Afternoon Discovering Gorbio

After spending the morning in Èze, we made our way to Gorbio – a far less well-known village tucked into the mountains above the French Riviera, with fewer than a thousand residents. You really only need about an hour to explore, but it’s worth the stop. Getting to Gorbio involves a series of winding roads, and the tiny parking lot at the entrance likely won’t suffice once more people discover this hidden gem! Fun fact: Celine Dion’s music video for “Falling Into You” was filmed here!

Wandering through Gorbio

I’m pretty sure we were the only non-locals wandering the streets, which made for a unique experience that felt like stepping into another world. As we meandered through the village, we crossed paths with stray cats and kids running through the cobbled alleys playing chase. Each narrow street twisted and turned into one another, connecting like a charming little maze. Every corner felt authentic and untouched, as though the village had barely changed in centuries.

If you end up finding your way to Gorbio, try not to spread the word too fast – their little parking lot might not survive the secret getting out!
