Overall: 3/5
On a whim, I booked a trip to Cannes, France for Labor Day weekend (August 2025) and was able to find availability at Le Cavendish Hotel. Although my experience included one significant drawback (described at the end of this review), I was ultimately glad to have found a well-located and relatively affordable option, especially compared to hotels located directly in the city center or along Boulevard de La Croisette.
Location
Located just steps from the city center, a 5-minute walk from the train station, and a 10-minute walk from the charming Le Suquet neighborhood, Le Cavendish is quite conveniently located. Whether you plan to stay in town or want to explore other destinations along the French Riviera by train, this hotel’s location makes it all easily accessible.
Atmosphere
This Belle Époque-style hotel has only 34 rooms, making for a cozy and intimate experience. The hotel’s façade and common areas are beautifully designed and create an inviting and relaxing atmosphere for guests. A unique feature of this hotel is its antique lift, which is framed by a spiral staircase that winds up to the guest rooms from the lobby. The hotel also has a cozy lounge area where guests can enjoy breakfast in the morning and a complimentary open bar every evening, both of which I truly enjoyed. Additionally, the friendly service from front desk and lounge area staff made for a generally pleasant experience throughout my stay.
Rooms & Comfort
I stayed in a Standard Room with a balcony, which included Wi-Fi, a TV, air conditioning, toiletries, a hairdryer, a minibar, a kettle with various teas available, and a safe. While the room itself was on the smaller side, it met my needs and provided a bright and comfortable space to come back to after long days at the beach. Despite being located on a busy street, I found the room to be relatively quiet at night. While the balcony was a lovely addition, it would have been even better with the addition of a small chair in order to fully enjoy the space.
Breakfast
Breakfast at Le Cavendish is not included in the price of a room, but in my opinion, it is well worth the cost. There was a wide variety of both sweet and savoury options, and I was happy to be able to rely on having a satisfying and enjoyable meal at the hotel before heading out to start my days.
Complimentary Open Bar
A standout feature of this hotel is its complimentary open bar, offered nightly between 6:30 and 8:30pm. During this time, guests can enjoy a variety of wines, soft drinks, and savoury snacks. Whether you’re traveling as a couple, with friends, or solo, this feature provides a lovely opportunity for both relaxation and connection. On my first night, I was lucky to meet another solo traveler there, and we ended up looking forward to our pre-dinner drinks together every evening!
Final Thoughts
Overall, Le Cavendish offers guests a comfortable, well-located stay with thoughtful amenities. The breakfast, open bar, and proximity to the city center were the main reasons I chose this hotel above others in similar locations and price ranges, and this hotel delivered when it came to these features.
A Note on my Experience at Le Cavendish Hotel
Unfortunately, my stay was overshadowed by a concerning incident that significantly impacted my overall impression of the hotel.
Shortly after checking in, I accepted the offer to have my luggage brought up to my room. When I later accessed my belongings, I discovered that €80 in cash was missing. The money had been kept in an envelope and had not been used since exchanging currency, making the discrepancy immediately noticeable. I reported this to the hotel right away. However, I was disappointed by how the situation was handled by management. The response I received felt dismissive, and I was told I could find alternative accommodation if I didn’t feel comfortable staying. More emphasis was placed on questioning my actions (such as why I hadn’t used the in-room safe) rather than addressing the concern itself. Given that the incident occurred before my luggage had even reached my room, this explanation did not feel appropriate or reassuring.
While I understand that situations like this can be difficult for hotels to assess and investigate, I believe guests should feel confident that their belongings are handled with care and respect. The lack of a constructive response or any meaningful follow-up left me feeling unsettled. Afterward, I came across a recent review from another guest describing a similar experience, which added to my concern. Because of this, I would personally hesitate to stay at Le Cavendish again. While the hotel offers many positive features, this experience unfortunately impacted my trust and overall impression.
